Shiva Temple Aarti Maha Kumbh 2025 Bengaluru Techie Suicide Kolkata Water System Nikita Singhania Govt alerts versus consuming jatropha curcas fruits!.?.!Pearl.DSouza@timesofindia.com/ Dec 4, 2024, 23:53 IST Share AA + Text Size Small Medium Large Follow us Bengaluru: After a group of 5 women and eight children were hospitalised from eating Jatropha curcas seeds in Chamarajanagar district recently, the food security commissionerate has actually warned about the possibility of public health being impacted due to intake of dangerous fruits.Commissioner of food security, Srinivas K, stated while all parts of jatropha curcas plants are toxic, the seeds consist of a high concentration of ricin and are more toxic."The adverse effects after taking in the seeds are vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and a burning feeling in the throat.
Vomiting and diarrhoea take place within fifteen minutes of consumption. Also, considering that the seeds have an enjoyable taste, there is a possibility of a higher effect on the health of kids, "Srinivas cautioned about the evergreen tropical plant with thin stems.Thirteen members of Banjara (nomadic) community who were hospitalised at Kollegal taluk health center in Chamarajanagar were discharged in a day. One kid with intellectual impairments was kept in observation before being discharged, district health officer, Chamarajanagar, Chidambara S told TOI.He stated
members of the neighborhood remained in Kollegal for sugarcane-cutting work.
