Shiva Temple Aarti Maha Kumbh 2025 Bengaluru Techie Suicide Kolkata Water System Nikita Singhania Govt alerts against taking in jatropha fruits!.?.!Pearl.DSouza@timesofindia.com/ Dec 4, 2024, 23:53 IST Share AA + Text Size Small Medium Large Follow us Bengaluru: After a group of 5 ladies and eight kids were hospitalised from eating Jatropha curcas seeds in Chamarajanagar district recently, the food safety commissionerate has actually warned about the possibility of public health being impacted due to consumption of harmful fruits.Commissioner of food safety, Srinivas K, said while all parts of jatropha plants are dangerous, the seeds contain a high concentration of ricin and are more hazardous."The negative effects after taking in the seeds are throwing up, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and a burning experience in the throat.
Vomiting and diarrhoea take place within fifteen minutes of intake. Also, considering that the seeds have an enjoyable taste, there is a possibility of a greater impact on the health of children, "Srinivas cautioned about the evergreen tropical plant with thin stems.Thirteen members of Banjara (nomadic) neighborhood who were hospitalised at Kollegal taluk health center in Chamarajanagar were released in a day. One kid with intellectual impairments was kept in observation before being released, district health officer, Chamarajanagar, Chidambara S told TOI.He said
members of the neighborhood were in Kollegal for sugarcane-cutting work.
