Shiva Temple Aarti Maha Kumbh 2025 Bengaluru Techie Suicide Kolkata Water Supply Nikita Singhania Govt alerts versus taking in jatropha fruits!.?.!Pearl.DSouza@timesofindia.com/ Dec 4, 2024, 23:53 IST Share AA + Text Size Small Medium Large Follow us Bengaluru: After a group of 5 ladies and eight kids were hospitalised from consuming Jatropha curcas seeds in Chamarajanagar district recently, the food safety commissionerate has cautioned about the possibility of public health being affected due to intake of dangerous fruits.Commissioner of food safety, Srinivas K, said while all parts of jatropha plants are toxic, the seeds include a high concentration of ricin and are more harmful."The negative impacts after taking in the seeds are vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and a burning experience in the throat.
Vomiting and diarrhoea happen within fifteen minutes of usage. Also, considering that the seeds have a pleasant taste, there is a possibility of a higher effect on the health of children, "Srinivas cautioned about the evergreen tropical plant with thin stems.Thirteen members of Banjara (nomadic) community who were hospitalised at Kollegal taluk hospital in Chamarajanagar were discharged in a day. One child with intellectual specials needs was kept in observation before being discharged, district health officer, Chamarajanagar, Chidambara S informed TOI.He said
members of the community were in Kollegal for sugarcane-cutting work.
